GourmetAmigurumi

Today I leave for Ireland, my ancestral home.  We will be there for a whole 2 weeks.  I am SO excited.  I am already planning how to get a whole blanket’s worth of aran wool in the plane.  I think I will have to buy another suitcase while I am there!  Talk to you in a couple of weeks :)

My fridge is broken so I have a good excuse not to cook.  It’s funny;  I love to cook, but I also love reasons not to, hum…Anyway tonight we went out to one of my favorite restaurants.  Chuck’s Southern Comforts Cafe.  It is impossible to leave with a belly so full that your eyes feel like crossing, or maybe it is possible and I just haven’t discovered the way yet.  I had an amazing bowl of chili, the sweet type with cinnamon and coco powder, and after that a crawfish po’ boy all washed down with a couple of O’Fallons 5 Day IPA. I think I need a nap :)

On Thursday, my friend Melissa and I went to the Etsy seller meet-up here in Chicago.  She’s in the background looking amused at something and that’s me in the front multitasking.  (I am so proud of that skirt, I finished it a few days before.  I added cute patch pockets in the front.  It a really fun fabric, too.  If you look closely at the fabric the you can see that the motifs are bugs) The presentation went a bit long, in my opinion.  That is, my tail bone was absolutely KILLING me after sitting in that chair for 2 1/2 hours.

Nevertheless, I learned a lot about areas and groups on the site that I didn’t know existed.  I am one of those people would jumps on to list and gets off as soon as possible for fear that I might spend all day aimlessly browsing.  But a few of the groups seem worthwhile, I just have to remember which…maybe I should have jotted them down.  Additionally, it was really neat to see the variety of people selling stuff.  I was imaging it to be entirely women around my age (29).  But there were a few men in their 60’s. I sorta wish we had the chance to mingle a bit more, but after a few hours of listening, Melissa and I were a bit tired so went bowed out and went down the street for a nightcap.  Honker’s Ale, yum :)

So here goes with my first uncraft-related post.  Last night I had a dream that I was playing Scrabble.  It was my turn to put down the first word.  So I stepped out on the the veranda (no, I certainly do not have a veranda! ) where one of those crystal clear, white sand beaches came right up to the steps of the porch.  I reached down into the water and caught a fish.  A gorgeous (if you can call a fish gorgeous) fish.  It’s scales looked like beautiful sparkling orange sequins.  After that I went back to the to game and set the fish down across the middle of the board….don’t ask me why.  I am sure a Jungian would love to get their hands on that one, huh?

Up to this point I have made a conscious effort to keep the content of my blog very specific to amigurumi making , but my friend Melissa keeps insisting that you, my lovely readers, would be interested to hear what I do with my life in general, not just the amigurumi related stuff.  Like the how I have been ignoring my studio and sewing clothes instead, or how that yarn monster under my bed is growing and growing,  or that my house is a complete remolding disaster area, or about how I am completely obsessed with “Hercule Poirot” mysteries….So what do you think?  Do you guys want me to bore the pants off you with “life in general” type stuff?

Yes, I am still alive.  But very distracted.  Right now my house is completely torn apart because we are remodeling.  So it is difficult to concentrate on much of anything.  Our house was built in 1964 and I don’t think any of the previous owners took very good care of it.  So our poor little town house is very shabby.  It is getting a new coat of paint everywhere and  few minor updates through out.  We can’t afford to replace the vintage fixtures so we are decorating around them creatively :)

And we are going to Ireland in a few weeks and have already started getting ready.  Lots to do!

Oh, and by the way, I forgot to mention an upcoming show.  I have been very kindly asked to participate in Luv-able Hug-able at Gallery Hanahou this coming December.  I am so excited.  I promise I have not forgotten how to crochet and I will share pics of my work as soon as I have anything that looks like something :)
