Well, my life has settled down a bit since I wrote last.  So I thought I’d give you a brief update.  2  Thursdays ago, which by sad coincidence happened to be my 30th birthday, my mom was diagnosed fairly aggressive breast cancer.  She found a great surgeon who she connected with emotionally right away and had a double mastectomy yesterday.  The procedure went as well as it could; when we saw her post-op she looked fantastic.  We were all amazed at how well and how quickly she was recovering.  She will probably be coming home tonight.

So next is the long haul of chemo and radiation after that.  I have 1 sister and 4 brothers, all younger than me, the 3 youngest still live at home and the rest of us live no further than 2 miles away.  Plus our family is very close and we all, more or less, get along with each other very well.  This makes a fantastic support network, which will make the next year of treatment easier to cope with.  Your thoughts and prayers would be greatly appreciated.

Beth, my thoughts are with you and your mother. My own mother had breast cancer 18 months ago, and also had to undergo radiation therapy. She is now doing absolutely fine now, as I’m sure you mother will, very soon.
    Hugs!

oh Beth, how traumatic! My mum has had Breast cancer on and off now for the past 25 years. She’s had a single mastectomy and every possible treatment you can think of. It’s tough going and absolutely exhausting but as long as your mum lets her family do all that needs to be done and she just concentrates on getting better I’m sure she’ll pull through.
My ma has since been diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer but it’s amazing what the woopass drugs can do these days and she’s managing it well at present.
Mums – they’re made of tough stuff!
Stay positive and give your mum lots of love.
    thinking of you all,
    xxx

  12. Beth – my warmest wishes to you and your family – I am happy to hear that you have such a wonderful support system – I know it helps! My brothers and I are also very close (although geographically far) and it was and still is a great comfort to have a close supportive family.

    hugs, prayers and well wishes!

    Beth,

You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. I’m glad she was able to connect with her surgeon, that seems very important. Please remember to also take care of yourself! Happy belated birthday.
